1. Halloween Is My Favorite Holiday. Bring Me Your Costumes. 🎃Halloween has always been my favorite holiday to photograph.
My portrait career actually began as a classically trained black-and-white studio photographer, so I learned early that a great portrait isn't about a costume, a backdrop or a bunch of tricks.
It's about the person.
Then Halloween comes along and gives me COLOR, outrageous costumes, tiny superheroes, princesses, monsters, dogs, babies, families and every wonderfully weird personality in between.
And that's where it gets really fun.
There is something exhilarating about having a line of people waiting, a subject in front of my camera and a split second to direct them into a pose that creates a photograph that will still look great years from now.
That's what I love.

Some of you following me now may actually see yourselves in these photographs.
Maybe you were five.
Maybe you were a baby.
Maybe you were wearing a costume that your mother absolutely loved and you absolutely hated.
I've been photographing Chicago families for a very long time.
And now some of those kids are grown up.
